Mr. Avrutis is an attorney with his practice focusing on debtor / collector law, and has handled collection cases throughout Florida for over 40 years. Mr. Avrutis obtained his Bachelor’s undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of Florida, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with high honors in 1982. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1983 and joined what was then known as Kass Hodges, P.A., and represents financial institutions, hospitals, insurance companies, debt buyers and businesses regarding their collection matters.
He has been a presenter for local bar associations, and numerous businesses on consumer and commercial collections as well as a presenter for statewide conventions of County Court Judges, for the Florida Bar approved Continuing Legal Education Seminar on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, a seminar entitled “Enforcement of Judgments in Florida” for the Sarasota County Bar Association, as well as presented to the Law Academy for Booker High School with a focus on deceptive sales practices, cars and consumers.
He authored a collections chapter in the Creditors and Debtors Practice, along with a manual for the Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education section, and a manual entitled “Enforcement of Judgments in Florida” for the Sarasota County Bar Association
Mr. Avrutis is a member of the Collection Law League of America and the International Association of Commercial Collectors.
Scott D. Foeller received his undergraduate degree and Master’s Degree
from Stetson University in 1990 and 1991, respectively.
He completed his law school curriculum at Stetson University College of Law in just two years, graduating in 1993 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in the spring of 1994.
Before joining what was then known as Kass Hodges, P.A. in 1998, Mr. Foeller was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis where he worked as an Examiner in the area of regulatory enforcement, asset quality review, and supervision of banks and bank holding companies to ensure the ongoing safety and soundness of the institutions. Since transitioning to practicing in Florida, Mr. Foeller’s practice is concentrated in the area of creditors’ rights and collections throughout the state of Florida. With a family background in the automobile industry, Mr. Foeller quickly became known for handling replevin actions to regain possession of collateral, and also for pursuing deficiency balances once the collateral is liquidated. He also became a member of Sarasota County Bar Association.
After joining the Firm in 1998, Mr. Foeller became a partner with the Firm in 2004. Mr. Foeller has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1994 and the Sarasota County Bar Association since 1998.
He has served as the Chair for the County Civil Section of the Sarasota County Bar Association for two terms and has co-hosted several legal clinics as part of public outreach programs. From 2002 through 2007 he was a participant in several small claims discussion panels for the Public Interest in Law annual series sponsored by the Sarasota Bar. Currently, Mr. Foeller serves on the 12th Judicial Circuit Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee and periodically conducts other conferences in the area of creditors’ rights and general contract and business law.
